The Chef Club of Hotel Management Department of GGN Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines organized “The Best Home Chef Competition” at its campus here today.

109 participants from across the region participated in the event.  The participants belonged to different sectors of the society. There were housewives, professionals, students and people from the Hotel Industry.

Mr. Satinder Kumar, Executive Chef, The Beer Street, Mr. Sudhanshu Priyadarshani, Executive Chef, ACCT  and Ms. Ramandeep Toor, Deptt. of Home Science, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Baddowal were the esteemed judges for the event.

The participants brought a homemade dish and presented it to the judges for evaluation. The creativity, novelty and vivid presentation of the participants were worth appreciation. Pocket Pizzas, Raddish mousse, sushi watermelon milkshake, rasmalai with pannacotta, vegetable nest, chicken dumplings, Brinjal Raita, Ravioli were some of the creative dishes presented during the first round.       20 participants were shortlisted for round 2 on the basis of taste, presentation, innovation and nutritional value of the dish presented in round 1. During the second round, the participants were given ingredients like carrot, dry fruit, milk, khoya, Sugar, and spices to prepare a sweet dish.

Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT said that the event intended to provide a platform to budding chefs.  He added that through engaging in the competition, people learn to appreciate just what it takes to get food on their tray each day.

 Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT said that this competition not only evaluated the taste, innovation, and presentation of the dish but also the chef’s patience and his ability to manage time & stress. He congratulated the department for successfully organizing this event.
