GGN Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines organized a fun- filled cultural event to celebrate the end of the winter season and to usher in the springtime, during the gala fiesta of Vasant Panchami here today.

The event began with the cordial welcome of the gathering by Ankita of MBA 4th. The students clad in yellow attires, the sunny weather and wonderful ambience symbolized Basant, signifying brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life.

Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT addressed the gathering. He highlighted the relevance of Basant Festival. He shared that spring means pleasant weather, free from the scorching heat, the cold bites or dodgy rains; it is therefore crowned as the king of all seasons. He further said that “Scintillating yellow colour holds great importance on this day. The color of Basant (Spring) is yellow, also known as the ‘Basanti’ colour. It symbolizes prosperity, light, energy and optimism. This is the reason why people wear yellow clothes and make traditional delicacies in yellow hues.”

            The students then displayed a magnificent cultural show that enthralled the audience to the peak. The  vibrant girls of B.Sc -Fashion Technology 2nd  Semester  danced on Punjabi  folk numbers displaying the rich heritage of Punjab during  a Giddha performance. This was followed by the duet dance performances by 6th semester girls. Lakhwinder Singh, Harshdeep Singh, Himanshu S, Kunal and Harsh Sharma of BCA 2nd semester many accolades for their Bhangra performance. The solo dance performance by Ashu ( BCA 2nd sem), Kamakshi (BCA 2nd sem), Akash ( 2nd semester) and Manpreet of MBA 4th semester the stage on fire. Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, this is exactly what the gathering felt when  Sahil Mishra (BBA 6th Sem), Paramjot Kaur (MBA 2nd Sem) and Tapsi (MBA 2nd semester)  gave solo singing performances. 

The cultural show was followed by a series of one-minute games. Dance to the tune, musical riddles, boys dancing on item numbers and preparing popcorn garlands, girls decorating them with different accessories made up of flowers and straws etc were a great visual delight.

The boys proved their strength and skills during lemon race, three-legged race, one-legged race, pithu race , blind race, book balance race and many others.

To develop and enhance their entrepreneurial skills, the students put up and managed  stalls of various eatables and games. They not only provided sumptuous snacks to the audience but also earned great profits and appreciation. The star attraction of the day was the most awaited inter-class tug of war competition. The team of 10 boys from BHMC( Hotel Management) 2nd semester  was declared the winners after undergoing a series of tough rounds.

While the audience was enjoying the fiesta, the judges were keeping a keen eye on the best dressed students Harsh Sharma of BCA 2nd semester was declared Mr. Basant while Inderpreet Kaur of MBA 4th Semester was adjudged Ms. Basant.

Director Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra concluded the event by motivating the students to be part and parcel of such celebration as they were an important component of their groomed personality. He also appreciated the efforts of students in setting up and managing the stalls very well.

S. Gursharan Singh Narula, President, GKEC, Dr. S. P Singh, Hony. Gen. Secretary, GKEC, and other esteemed members of GKEC were also present on the occasion. They appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the students in organizing this event.
