In its endeavour to train students in all the aspects of hospitality operations, the Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technologies (HMCT) of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines organized a remarkable food fiesta-‘The Tastebuds of India’ at its campus.The students of Hotel Management Department prepared the dishes and served them through an array of wonderful stalls offering large variety of sumptuous dishes and diverse range of regional delicacies under the Punjabi, Hyderabadi, Lakhnawi, Maharashitrian and South Indian cuisines.The students used innovative ideas to create the ambience and atmosphere of their respective stalls. To complete the picture, they came dressed up in regional dresses and served the exotic vegetarian delights in a professional manner.It was the time for the whole GGN family, comprising the esteemed members of Gujranwala Khalsa Education Council(GKEC), faculty members, students and special guests to roll up their sleeves and enjoy a whole host of live cooking demonstrations and gastronomic delights.The event was attended by 300 guests which included professionals from the hospitality industry, faculty and students from other Schools and Colleges, media and academia. The guests relished the best quality food at low prices and appreciated the efforts and hard work of the students.
Apart from displaying their culinary skills, the students also showcased their marketing strategies by providing special festival menus, discounts, lucky draw coupons and great meal deals. Chef Mahesh was around all the time to answer those burning culinary questions posed by the students and guests.Mr Suraj KC, Sous Chef, Hotel Nirvana was the Chief Guest while Mr. Sanjay Thakur, F& B Manager, Hotel Nirvana was the Guest of Honour for the day. They appreciated the ambience, décor of the venue, and the authentic delicious food prepared by the students. They said that in addition to the hands on experience the students get while organizing a food festival, such events were also important as they showcased the talent and skills of the students.
Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT said that this annual culinary festival was designed to celebrate the fabulously diverse range of food and to give a matchless experience to students with respect to guest handling, food production and service operational skills.
Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT congratulated the Department for putting up a great show. He said that the event provided an opportunity to the students to sharpen their skills in marketing, event management and function catering.
