Gujranwala Gurui Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GGNINT), Civil Lines in association with GGN Khalsa Collge and  our space Cinema Group  organized a seminar on “ Emerging Immigration Perspective Through Short Films” . This seminar was organized as a part two-day International conference hosted by GGN Khalsa College on the topic “ Immigrant Punjabi Literature in Global Perspective”.

The Event witnessed deliberations and discussions on the opportunities and challenges of immigration. Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT accorded a warm welcome to the dignitaries and highlighted that short films have become a significant medium to spread awareness amongst the masses. The prominent Guests that marked their presence at  the event  included Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal,  President, Punjab Press Club, Chandigarh & Managing Director, Media Munch, a unit for films and TV programmes, Mr Pradeep Singh Founder of Our Space Cinema Group, Mr. Krishan Kamal, Sesoned Fashion Photographer, and  Dr. Saadhu Singh, Former Professor in Punjabi Literature.

The event began with the showcasing of a series of short films that gave the students a virtual tour of life of immigrants. They highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by the Indian immigrants.  They focused on issues like language barrier, racism, problems with housing and travel, exploitation, etc A short film casting Inderpreet Kaur, a GGNIMT student of MBA 4th semester in the lead role was also launched on the same day. Through these films, the students were informed that the global world is full of useful openings and opportunities but they must take care of themselves in the unknown world. They should plan, prepare, and get aware about the rules and regulations before taking a decision to migrate.

Dr. Johal , while addressing the gathering said that short films are a great form of cinematic storytelling. He mentioned that writing them requires the exact same skills as writing a feature length script – though on a smaller scale.  He further said that short films may lack TV broadcast opportunities but have larger and wider outlets.

The deliberations were followed by an open house discussion where students asked questions related to immigration, film making, acting skills, etc.

Principal Dr Harpreet Singh, thanked the esteemed guests for sparing their precious time and sharing useful information with the students.
