Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil lines, Ludhiana organized a turban tying competition today to celebrate ‘Khalsa Sajana Diwas’. Over 50 students from various courses BCA, BBA, B Com, BHMCT, MBA and MCA participated with full enthusiasm. Students tied turbans of various eye catching and beautiful hues and colours and tried their hands at different styles like Patiala Shahi, Amritsar Style, Morni Turban Style, Vattaan Wali style etc. All the participants were given a time period of 30 minutes to tie their turbans and were adjudged on the basis of style, neatness, colour and their knowledge about the type of turban tied. Damanpreet Singh of BBA 6 semester got the first prize, Harekasjot Singh of BBA 4 was adjudged second whereas Harjot Singh of BBA 6 was declared third. Beside this, three consolation prizes were also declared.
While honoring the winners, Prof Manjit Singh Chabbra, Director GGNIMT said “ Turbans signify royalty. Wearing a turban has always been in the Sikh tradition from the time of Guru Nanak Dev ji, but it was formalized by Guru Hargobind Sahib as a symbol of sovereignty and Royalty”. He also congratulated the participants for upholding the rich tradition of wearing a turban on the historical day of Baisakhi. Dr Parvinder Singh, Principal, GGNIMT expressed his gratitude to the Judges Prof. Satinderjeet Singh and Prof. G.S.Bhatia for judging the event and sharing valuable insights with the participants. He also appreciated the keen efforts put in by Dr. Charanjeet Singh & Prof. Jagmeet Singh for motivating the students to participate and compete in the contest. Damanpreet, thanked GGNIMT for honouring the Royal Status of Dastar by organizing the contest. For me it is an annual event that I look forward to, as it gives us pride and also an opportunity to show case different styles and compete with others.
