To raise awareness of the dangers of drugs on the health of the youth, the NSS Forum of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology(GGNIMT), Ghumar Mandi organized a “March Against Drugs” under the leadership of Mr. Jagmeet Singh, Asst. Prof, Department of Computer Applications here today . A team of more than 100 students from BBA, BCA, B.Com(Hons.), BMS (Hotel Management), B.Sc. (Fashion Technology), MBA and MCA participated in the awareness drive. The team carrying banners and placards marched on the cross sections of Bhai Bala Chowk and Aarti Chowk shouting slogans and sharing facts about drugs .
The NSS volunteers received a very enthusiastic response from the public. The passer bys appreciated the efforts of the team in spreading the message against Drugs. Sahil Kashyap, a BCA 5th sem student , while talking to the media said that “ when our youth would be free from the clutches of drugs, that would be the ‘real’ independence for our nation.” Another student Kushwinder of B. Sc.(HMCT) 3rd sem said ” to curb the drug abuse, apart from awarenesss campaigns , there should be stringent laws leading to criminal sentences and penalties for manufacturing, transporting and trafficking in illegal drugs.”
Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT congratulated the team for their efforts and said that it has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the factual information about drugs—what drugs are and what they do, its usage rates is bound to drop.
Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT while addressing the media said that initiatives like these can go long way in treading towards raising a generation who will remain free from the ravages of drug abuse.
