The Department of Fashion Design of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines Ludhiana organized an industrial visit to Neva Garments Ltd., one of the leading players of the fashion world. NEVA Garments manufactures all types of cotton fabrics and is also involved in production of T-shirts, night suits, track suits, jeans ,kurtis, shirts, sweatshirts, body warmers and inner wear. During the visit was students were able to get a first hand exposure to different activities like knitting, designing followed by garment production.
GGNIMTians were advised to explore different processes and ask questions and clear their doubts by Mr. Samuel Sidhu, Human Resource Manager. Ms. Aman, Senior Quality Controller, briefed the students about the various steps involved in the quality control and also its significance for brand building. She outlined the steps taken at every stage to ensure excellent quality.in the manufacturing, finishing and packing. Senior Designer Mukul Thakur offered his insight about the design process, forecasting and range planning to the students. He asserted that designing was an optimisation of trends, resources and manufacturing costs. Ms. Nupur from the marketing department explained the significance of Marketing, as the best designs and best quality does not necessarily lead to sales. She highlighted the importance of Marketing Research and Consumer Awareness for the success of Brands. Students were also taken to the retail outlet of NEVA Garments to understand display, merchandising and sales promotion.
Prof. Gurleen Kaur, Head, Fashion Department, GGNIMT said that ‘Overall, each student gained a good practical exposure about the Knitwear Apparel making and this visit would help them to have a better idea about the real world of fashion industry. Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director GGNIMT expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Niti Jain,Director, Neva Garments for very kindly facilitating the industrial visit. Principal GGNIMT Dr. Parvinder Singh hoped that Neva would also accept GGNIMT students for internship and placement, as a good stepping stone can be a great enabler for professional success. ‘The day was well spent in terms of gaining knowledge, facts, and insight into what goes on in making the garments that we wear ’ expressed a final year student, Simranjeet. ‘This visit helped us understand challenges and opportunities in business, and this awareness would help us to plan for a career of our choice in designing, merchandising, garment productions or marketing. said Karanjot, another student.
