Budding Hotel Management students of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology, Civil Lines, Ludhiana visited Hotel Hyatt Regency for a Location Visit and Skill Development Workshop. Faculty Members Prof. Tavisha Mishra & Prof. Honey Chawla mentored the students during the visit cum workshop. Industrial Visit started with an induction programme conducted by Manager- HR, Hyatt Regency Ms. Jyotsana Kharbanda. She briefed the students about their organisation, their protocols and working culture. GGNIMTians were also acquainted with the operations of front office, housekeeping, food & beverage service, food production, HR, Accounts and IT departments. Prof. Shanitimani Sathwara, Head, Department of Hotel Management, GGNIMT shared the objective of this visit to be, to provide students an insight regarding internal working of the Hotel Industry and also opportunity to learn practically through an interaction about guest handling, software implementation and execution of globally accepted customer services.
Students were able to have a diversified exposure to different types of rooms, restaurants, banquet halls and other departments like housekeeping laundry , butchery, different types of kitchens in food production etc. Software and MIS Team of Hyatt also trained and made the students about their reservation and CRM software, as these are the backbone for contemporary hospitality organizations. Pawneet Kaur of 2nd semester felt, this bird’s eye view of a global hotel had helped her understand the finer details of hospitality industry and the spirit of cooperation and positive attitude with which professionals approach and solve problems. Raj of 6th semester was excited at getting a chance to learn opera software, and its role in accelerating work and minimizing possibilities of errors. Prof.Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT advised the students to be proactive in learning and also to be prepared for internships as experiential learning is critical for success as a professional.
