Fashion Design Students from Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines Ludhiana visited GMMSA EXPO organized by (Garments Machinery Manufacturing & Suppliers Association), An exhibition on Knitting-Dyeing-Sewing-Finsishing-Printing-Embroidery-Linking-Laser Cutting-Allied Machines & Accessories. During the visit students were able to get a first hand exposure to Machinery, equipment and processed used by the Garment units ranging from manufacturing raw materials- fibers, spinning till the completion of finished product and dispatch. Some of the stalls visited by the students were Audaces 360, Arora International, Pankaj Creations, Indana Group ,Gemini and Narinder International. Students observed the operations of these machines about which they had just theoretical knowledge. Manufacturers also gave samples and swatch cards to students as mementos for the visit.
Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director GGNIMT hoped this exposure would have kindled a desire in students to shape high growth careers in the fashion industry. He also appreciated this initiative of providing a holistic exposure of the Garment Industry by the GGNIMT’s Training & Placement Cell. Principal Dr. Harpreet Singh advised the students to treat the visit as a preview to joining a respected fashion corporate. Prof. Gurleen Kaur, Head, Fashion Department felt. each student gained a good practical exposure about different types of and also the fashion processes like Fashion Knitting, Weaving, Printing, Dyeing and Embroidery industry. Karanjot a sixth sem student felt the day was well spent in terms of gaining knowledge, facts, and insight into new technologies used by garment units”. Niharika, a fourth sem student felt that “This visit increased her awareness about new technology, machinery and processes involved in garment industry, helping her to plan for a career of her choice-fashion designing. Prof. Maganpreet and Prof. Rishita Sharma also accompanied the students.
