The Department of Hotel Management of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT), Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana organized Three day Online Cooking Workshop “Summer Delight 2021” from 5-7 July.
More than two hundred participants including students, professionals and teachers joined the session to learn how to prepare different dishes – Mexican, Indian and desserts for all new world.
Prof Priya Arora and Prof. Tavisha Mishra conducted the workshop and coordinated with the chef. They also handled the live queries of students and participants very promptly during the workshop. The zeal and enthusiasm of the participants was visible through their good comments and feedback.
Dr. Harpreet, Principal GGNIMT, welcomed the participants and discussed the nutritious value, benefits of the home cooked food over the fast food available in the market. During this pandemic times where most of us are preparing meals at home this workshop will add another feather in your hat and most of you will be able to prepare different cuisines with few ingredients, he added.
Chef Kaushal from GGNIMT department of Hotel Management demonstrated a wide range of recipes from Mexican cuisine, Indian cuisine, Dessert preparing live on Zoom platform. Senior secondary level students from various schools from all over India participated in the online workshop. The workshop was very interactive and students were very keen to learn each and every cooking tip given by Chef Kaushal. Students raised many questions during the workshop which was answered by Chef Kaushal.
The first day of the workshop was on Mexican cuisine and recipes taught were very popular dishes amongst the young generation, authentic Tacos preparation with lots of twists and turns, Nachos were prepared with different accompaniments and presentation skills were taught.
The second day of the workshop included Samosa preparation. Five different types of samosas were prepared and taught such as Aloo Samosa, Pasta and Cheese Samosa, Noodle Samosa, a twist to the Samosa were given making it into a dessert preparation by preparing Chocolate Samosa and Mawa Samosa. The third day of the workshop included dessert preparation of stuffed fruit Kulfi.
Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT while explaining the rationale of this three day workshop said it was designed to benefit our culinary enthusiasts who have sent us lots of requests during our previous workshops and we have tried to incorporate those recipes and chef Kaushal will truly justify in demonstrating it to all the participants.
Ms Shantimani Sathwara, Head Dept. Hotel management, GGNIMT, gave the concluding remarks and proposed that in this workshop summer delight Chef Kaushal has demonstrated the minute details so that our participants can very well understand the basic techniques to prepare the recipes. In our kitchen labs we continuously keep on experimenting with different recipes from all over the world, beyond the recommendations in the syllabus. There are many techniques and unique practices that are taught in the Hotel Management course in GGNIMT.
